How does metadata removal work without uploading?+
PixPipe reads the image file directly in your browser using JavaScript, strips all EXIF and metadata fields, and creates a clean copy. The original file and the cleaned version both stay on your device.
What metadata is removed?+
All EXIF data including GPS coordinates, camera make/model, serial numbers, lens information, timestamps, software used, copyright fields, and any custom metadata tags.
Can I verify the metadata was actually removed?+
Yes. After stripping, use our Photo Privacy Scanner tool to inspect the cleaned image and confirm all metadata has been removed. Both tools run locally in your browser.
Is this safe for sensitive or whistleblower use?+
PixPipe makes no network requests with your image data. There are no server logs of your activity. However, for high-risk situations, we recommend also using Tor or a VPN when accessing the page itself.
Does removing metadata change the image quality?+
No. Metadata removal only strips the hidden data fields — the actual pixel content of your image remains completely untouched and identical.
