Amazon main image rules

Your main image has the strictest requirements:

Pure white background (RGB 255,255,255). Not off-white, not light gray — pure white. Amazon's algorithm checks this and will suppress listings with non-white backgrounds.

Product fills 85% of the frame. No excessive whitespace, no lifestyle props, no text or logos.

No watermarks, borders, or badges. "Sale" tags or brand logos overlaid on the image will get your listing suppressed.

Minimum 1000px on the longest side. But 2000px is strongly recommended — it enables Amazon's zoom feature.

Secondary image guidelines

Secondary images (slots 2-9) are more flexible:

Lifestyle shots are encouraged. Show the product in use, in context, with people.

Infographics work. Size charts, feature callouts, comparison tables — keep text readable at mobile sizes.

Show scale. Include a photo with a common object for size reference.

Same technical specs apply. 2000×2000px, sRGB, JPEG or PNG. White background requirement is relaxed for secondary images.

Why Amazon rejects product images

Background isn't pure white. This is the #1 rejection reason. Smartphone photos on a white sheet rarely produce RGB 255,255,255.

Image too small. Below 1000px on any side triggers rejection. Use our AI upscaler to enlarge without blur.

Text or logos on the main image. Amazon's algorithm detects overlaid text. Save text for secondary images.

Wrong color space. AdobeRGB or CMYK images display with shifted colors. Always export sRGB.

Amazon's AI image policy (2026)

Amazon allows AI-generated lifestyle and secondary images but requires that main product images accurately represent the physical item. AI-generated main images that misrepresent the product can lead to listing removal.

Use our AI image detector to verify supplier-provided photos.

Metadata and seller privacy

Amazon does strip some EXIF data from displayed images, but it's good practice to strip EXIF before uploading — especially GPS location data.

Our tool removes all metadata automatically. For a full breakdown, see our seller photo privacy guide.
